KUWAIT CITY (IQNA) – This year’s edition of the Kuwait International Holy Quran Award will be held next month.

New conference features upcoming international Quran contest in Kuwait

Speaking at a press conference in Kuwait City on Monday, an official with the Arab country’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry said the international Quran competition is scheduled to be organized on November 8-15.

Muhammad al-Alim said it will be held under the patronage of Kuwait’s Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The contenders will compete in five categories featuring memorization of the Holy Quran, recitation and Tajweed at different levels, he noted.

One category is the best project serving the Holy Quran, according to the official.

He also said invitations have been sent to 80 countries for participation in the competition.

Specialized committees have been set up to make the preparations for holding the Quranic event, Alim noted.

An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the contest and there will be speeches on Quranic issues, he went on to say.

Alim also noted that the sideline programs will include honoring Quranic figures, including Egyptian qari Sheikh Ahmed Khalil Shahin Qubais and Kuwaiti female qari Aisha Abdul Rahman al-Safi.
